This photo was taken in Ken Browne's back garden in 1992. After 20 odd years the original Echo Team members keep in touch. Just an example of what we had going in what were still the best years of my service career.

Back: Cpl Ian Berry, J/T Gordon Gourdie, FSgt Ken Browne, Fg Off Paul Steiner

Front:  Cpl Colin Eyres, Sgt Ross McKerron, SAC Bob Tring

Constructing a triple pallet of Swordfish torpedoes at Andros for recovery.  This shot was taken at the airstrip on Andros Island where the torpedoes are trialled as part of AUTEC. Task took place on 6 September 1995 and torpedoes were recovered back to Cape Canaveral Airstrip. Guy on Condec is Cpl Scouse Armitage (now Sgt).

Move of Tracked Rapier from Benbecula to Bruggen, 17 May 1995.  This picture was taken at Benbecula where the Royal Artillery Hebrides Ranges are established. All Rapier and Lance missiles were fired from here. The Sgt marshalling is Dave 'Pinky' Salmon who has just left the RAF in June of this year. This load was frightening to take off the aircraft as clearance was minimal and once it was over the hinge nothing was going to stop it!

Offload of Royal Navy Mk.8 Lynx at West Palm Beach Airport, Florida, 8 October 1995.  This was a RN Mk8 Lynx helicopter we flew out to West Palm Beach for re-assembly and continuing on to Andros where it was going to drop some torpedoes. The whole trip was very eventful with the crew bus catching fire in the middle of nowhere on the journey between Halifax and the Airport. Sadly the fire was extinguished before it reached the imprest!

Whilst enjoying the nightlife of West Palm Beach one of the crew innocently asked the barman, "Could you tell me where the Gents are please?"

"Don't worry," said  the barman, "They'll be here in a minute!"

Tipping a Houchin KVA60 - Jacksonville Florida 1995.  It seems like no one wants to take the blame for this little mishap.  It occurred when one of the loading team placed a chock against one of the front steering wheels as the Houchin rolled down the ramp of the C130.

Loading a JP233 Runway Denial Bomb to a VC10. This shot was taken at RAF Wildenrath in Oct 1990, the bombs were dropped by Tornados, over the runway, at very low level (hence the high loss of the RAF during the Gulf War). This muition is probably on its way to the Gulf.

A Very Quick Turnaround - Sarajevo February 1994.  This was taken during one of the many runs into Sarajevo as part of Operation Cheshire. Initially we had a detachment  in Zagreb and flew down from there but the locals were quite hostile and so we moved across to Ancona in Italy and operated from there.

Operation Cheshire - Sarajevo May 1994. The forklift in this shot is an AT10 John Deere as still used today by USAF. We've always wanted them but never got! During this airlift the MAMS team did endure the odd mortar attack. In one famous incident, whilst all the boys took shelter in a dugout, the officer, Flt Lt Mike Cumberland, sought cover behind some empty cardboard boxes!

Exercise Pendulum - Offloading Royal Marines - Bardufoss, Norway - March 1995. After nearly 30 years of Norwegian Arctic warfare exercises, last year (2000) was possibly the last.  If you look at the big scenario there is no longer the threat that existed throughout the Cold War.

Loading a Long Range Insertion Craft (LRIC) onto a Hercules - April 1996. These 'Miami Vice' style boats are used by the SBS for covert insertions. It's a very tight load as well as heavy. This particular boat was on it's way out to Beaufort MCAS, South Carolina for use during Exercise Purple Star.

Operation Cheshire - Ancona Airport Detachment - December 1994. This was Ancona, near Rimini. The people were great and so was the wine! The Republic of San Marino was only half an hours drive away.

Atlas Transfer Loader embarking onto an Antonov 124 (Ruslan) - Ascension, January 1997. Whilst I was the TSO I travelled down to Ascension Island on this Antonov. Amazingly, Hugh Curran (former MAMS Muppet), was the Flight Manager on board. I flew back to the UK on a TriStar whilst the Atlas went to the Falkland Islands.
